    Tailored Specification
Within the motorcycle market, high-displacement (> 999 cc) bikes set 200hp as a standard threshold, often reaching the astonishing power of more than 215hp for several Superbike and Hypernaked machines. In this picture, we must include also sporty crossovers capable of producing 160hp on 240kg machine more than 140 cm tall and 600cc Supersport and Naked bikes with almost the same weight of the bigger displacement counterpart but with half of the power.
DIABLO ROSSO™ IV sets a reference in the Supersport segment for all these classes of motorcycles. Therefore PIRELLI decided to differentiate the rear tires product characteristics based on the size, and therefore the type of motorcycle in order to perfectly deliver the requirements for each rider.

    Structures
    Front tires
DIABLO ROSSO™ IV raised specific Rayon cord stiffness, obtained thought larger section of more twisted strands allows a lower end-count, adapted along the contour, differentiating stiffness lean angle by lean angle, supporting the dynamic needs for an outstanding riding experience. These characteristics deliver to the rider a great contact feeling alongside a solid stability sensation.

Rear tires up to 190/50 ZR 17
DIABLO ROSSO™ IV rear tires up to 190/50 ZR 17 size feature a Rayon 2-wire strand structure. According to front structure, chord stiffness has been raised by more than 30% versus DIABLO ROSSO™ III reducing the end-count and therefore more space is available for the compound to perform. Grip and wear regularity benefit from it.

Rear tires from 190/55 ZR 17 above
PIRELLI engineers developed a racing-like structure, derived from World Superbike Championship expertise: DIABLO ROSSO™ IV features a 3-wire strand Lyocell structure which translates in a deformation ratio considerably lower than usual for street tires. The net result of this is superb traction during full-throttle acceleration, regardless of the lean angle.

    Contour
DIABLO ROSSO™ IV features race-oriented profiles derived by the ones used in the World Superbike Championship. Multi-radius sharp contours deliver an immediate transition from lean to upright and a quick change in direction, whilst a flatter shoulder portion provides high grip and line holding while cornering. Optimized sidewall height provides confident traction during both upright acceleration and corner exit. Balance between front and all rear contours allows a superb control feeling and neutral bike behavior.

    Compounds
A dual compound front tire is coupled with Cap & Base layout rears: a dual compound for low to medium displacement motorcycles and a tri-compound for Superbike and Hypernaked machines.
    Front tire
The hard layer due to the high content of Silica and the low Tg delivers outstanding grip in cold and wet conditions. The side softer layer (accessed when in lean angles over 35°) offers excellent grip and delivers a brilliant contact feeling. Combined this gives the rider the option to adjust the trajectory while cornering or to delay braking ahead of entering into lean.

Dual compound rear tires, up to 190/50 ZR 17
The full silica dual compound rear offers quick warm up, significant grip level regardless of lean angle (also in wet conditions) and riding smoothness. In relation with the dimension of the tire, and therefore of the contact patch, a dual compound with less compound discontinuity ensures the best stress distribution and therefore delivers riding feeling and wear uniformity.

Tri-compound rear tires, from 190/55 ZR 17 above
Introducing an endurance-racing compound, the 5-zone layout moves the trade-off on high lean angles from wet grip to thrust boost to cope with the extreme cornering speed and the astonishing engine outputs of modern performance motorcycles. The soft full silica mid rubber strip ensures performance whilst delivering a safe sporty ride – across all weather conditions.

    Tread Pattern Design
As a distinctive sign for PIRELLI sporty products, DIABLO ROSSO™ IV tread pattern is developed around the FLASH icon: a couple of center grooves which provide directional stability and ensures wear stability. FLASH is also accountable for water draining from the center to outside the contact patch when upright.
FLASH tails of varied length are distributed around the center design, outlining mid-lean grooves. Tails are a constitutive element of the tire behavior, providing the right tire flexibility and efficient water evacuation and an absolute wear uniformity.
Tread Pattern design of DIABLO ROSSO™ IV with slicker mid-lean areas evolves the DIABLO ROSSO™ III one, giving support at lean angles where water drainage is useless, which means over 35°. It is characterized by a large slick area on shoulders, which results in excellent grip and line holding while cornering at extreme lean angles. Besides the familiar look and feel, the tread pattern layout plays a relevant role in DIABLO ROSSO™ IV performance.
